jehovah's witnesses don't have a message.
they have an alternate lifestyle.. for persons put off by teachings of eternal torment they offer eternal sleep or a paradise earth.. for christians disaffected by tepid sermons and rituals they offer a vital lifesaving field service ministry.. in a world saturated in sex and exhibitionism, loud rude music and apathy they offer modesty of dress, cleanliness and worldwide family.. they are seen by the world much the same way as the amish only more modern.. people find their teaching quaint or laughable but think they are sincere and eager for postive change.. .
this is a brand more than a religion.. when the average person looks at jw's they see loyalty.
they are a nicely labelled tin can of toxic waste.

i have not experienced "shunning" yet, i have observed jehovah's witnesses shunning members who are not disfellowshiped, i think this has to do with selfishness inheritant in this religion.
christianity is a religion of giving, jesus wanted his members to share their goods with people who could not return the favor.
he promised his father in heaven would repay generous hearts who looked out for father-less boys and widows.. fine and dandy, but in the real world, quid-pro-qou matters, returning meal for meal, gift for gift and party for party does maintain your social status in the congregation.

sure, i thought i had some real friends but my shunning for two years without cause pretty much showed me the reality. These days i wouldnt have anything to say beyond ''nice suit'' to them if i couldn't talk anti jw.

i thought it might be interesting and fun to have a "predictions thread", where we set out our predictions for events to unfold concerning the watch tower society (or jehovah's witnesses in general) over the coming years/decades.. it strikes me that so much has happened in the last ten years, most of which has defied expectations.
here's just a few of the developments that i can think of:.
the abolishment of group book studies in favor of a "family worship evening"the creation of a "study edition" watchtowerthe halving of monthly magazine printing commitmentsthe unprecedented closure/merging of branches (16% reduction in branches last year)the menlo park scandal, a body of elders removed for resisting a refurb of their kingdom hallthe lawsuits in victoria, australia - the society taken to court concerning child protection lawscourtroom admissions about the faithful & discreet slave and similarities with the catholic churchincreased hate speech against "mentally diseased" apostatesastonishing lapses of judgment, such as the "selma and steve" study articlethe ditching of gilead as a school for missionariesambitious construction plans for a new world hq (with or without jehovah's blessing!
I'm sure the whole watchtower gaining control of all kingdom halls (assets) etc is with splinter groups in mind.
''Let them split, they will have nothing and we will sue their arses off if they try to use any literature or assets anyway''.

the latest august 15th watchtower study edition features an interesting review of the society's annual meeting.. one comment struck me as evidence that the governing body isn't quite as "discreet" as it claims.. here is what the article said:.
"there are plans to develop a 248-acre (100 ha) property at warwick.
'although we are not yet certain of jehovahs will regarding warwick,' said brother pierce, 'we are proceeding to develop the site with the intention of relocating the world headquarters of jehovahs witnesses there.
What a strange thing to say.
they could equally have said ''jehovah wants us to build patterson to serve as a central base for the post armageddon rebuilding''
and the rank and file would swallow it all.

11. By 2030 most governing body members will not be annointed.

i don't bother too often these days with things jw.
the other day, in a chat with an old friend [also xjw] she stated that on a forum somewhere it was being ststated that jw's have ruled that those who would be found purchasing items that are considered 'holiday items' - turkey around thanksgiving, valentine candy, fireworks around the 4th [just a few examples] could face a jc.. any truth to this?
has the watchtower taken such a stance in writing?
''its apostasy. so a JC would happen. anything related with "false religion" they would call it that''
unless of course you are co-hosting a persecution conference with the muslims at the OSCE...

in the latest 'study' version of the wt (aug 15, 2012) there is a report on the agm last year.. "balsatar perla interviewed three fellow members of the mexico bethel family regarding the merger of six central american branch offices with the mexico branch.
because of this merger, the bethel family in mexico has become more multicultural and international.
the influx of fellow believers from different lands has resulted in an interchange of encouragement.
''Because of this merger, the Bethel family in Mexico has become more multicultural and international. The influx of fellow believers from different lands has resulted in an interchange of encouragement''
The truth is probably more along the lines of what happens when any city, country or community becomes 'multicultural'...
suspicion, mistrust, conflict, jealousy, fear, hurt

drop its teaching on paradise earth.. the primary issue facing the watchtower results from it's teaching that members will never die, but live forever on this earth in paradise.
this teaching is cause of most of the doctrinal failures, and will be its eventual demise.. the promise of never dying is one of the foremost motivations for people that join the religion, and the message of living forever in paradise is compelling.
however, it is also the watchtower's achilles heel, as it forces false predictions of the nearness of the end.
this all makes me think of my mother, so much must have been riding on 1975 for her to sacrifice her marriage for the Watchtower.
It may have seemed worth the loss for she only had to wait 2 or 3 years till paradise. But post 75 she needed a husband for us kids and after he passed away she needed yet another for her new 2 kids as well...armageddon was now long overdue.
Now in her 70s, with 5 out of the truth children, she is very unhappy with life. Just waits to die.
I do wonder what goes thru her mind as she contemplates dying with no armageddon in sight.
Such a waste of her life, for the dead 'worldly' people have just as much hope of 'resurection' as she.
Watchtower, Jehovah's Witnesses... You thieving bastards. I hope your demise is as catastrophic as it can be.

he was, from shoulders up, taller than any other man (1 samuel 10:23) david's brother, eliab too was tall (1 samuel 16:6).

(1 samuel 17:38) .
He listed the various schools that were being conducted throughout the country. Starting with the "School for Congregation Elders" - 5 days of intense instruction. To date there have been 57 classes with 505 having graduated and many more classes yet to be conducted.
Well duh! it's not like any are going to fail as they sit there and write pencil notes in the margins of their secret book is it? Oh, here is you diploma, you 'graduated' with distinction... fuckin dipshits
